Why a foreigner can move to Poland?
When a foreigner is presented to locals
in Poland the first question is, almost every time: 'why you chose
Poland?' They expect a simple answer like love or Erasmus studies.
But they are usually not ready for an elaborated answer.
The sad irony is that making this
question and being surprised with the answers show that Poles forgot
the best that their country has to offer and at some point, stopped
cherishing it as it should be.
Some of the examples can be: basic
goods are cheap, culture and history are rich and traditions are
preserved, most people (especially in bigger cities) are well
educated. Hospitality and politeness are values passed on for
generations. Traditional food is very tasty, nevertheless women are
extremely elegant. Public transportation is accessible to the
majority, quite affordable and ponctual. People are organized and
reliable. You can make friends and have people of trust along the
country.
Looking through that point of view,
maybe the long and cold winters, the low wages and meetings with too
conservative and narrow minded Poles seem to lose against so many and
different motives to embrace this country and culture, land and
people.
Like in most of places, the best might
turn out to be the worst. The humbleness of Polish people, that can
be admired from far, is the other side of the coin of the lack of
trust in their own qualities. We got so used to live in some times,
occupied and opressed in others, not realizing that some of best in
life will always be inside our borders.
May we found ourselves somewhere in
middle, in Poland or missing it from the other side of the world.
